Plenary Session Speakers

Conference Chair Susan Hackett and Plenary Speakers Jason Barnwell and Gina Passarella will introduce the conference—themes, insights from the pre-conference survey, and action plan for the three topical sessions (4IR, ESG, and DEI). The Futures Conference is open to the public, so anyone with an interest in the legal ecosystem or these megatrends is welcome to register!

Meet Jason Barnwell

Jason BarnwellJason Barnwell is an attorney in Microsoft’s Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs department. He is General Manager for the department’s digital transformation. His previous roles at Microsoft include leading the Legal Business, Operations, and Strategy Team, leading the Open Source Software practice group, and counseling the Cloud and AI Platform Business. Prior to joining Microsoft, he was an associate in the Emerging Companies practice group at Cooley LLP. Before entering law school, he worked as a software engineer developing enterprise software. He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and his J.D. from the University of Southern California School of Law. Click here to find out more. Jason is a Fellow of the College. 

Meet Gina Passarella

Gina PassarellaGina is editor-in-chief of global legal brands at ALM, overseeing The American Lawyer, Corporate Counsel, The National Law Journal, International, Legaltech News and China Law & Practice. She also works closely on Pro and GLL Advisers. She began covering the business of law for ALM in 2005 as a reporter for The Legal Intelligencer in Philadelphia. She then worked as an editor on the business of law desk at ALM before becoming editor-in-chief of The American Lawyer in 2017. She took on oversight of the other global brands in 2018, including the development of ALM's global reporting team outside of the United States. Gina's coverage focuses on the business of law, client relationships, law firm strategy and the future direction of the profession. She also has a particular focus on mental health in the legal profession. Gina is a Fellow-Elect of the College.
